KiKu: The Art of the Japanese Garden at the New York Botanical Garden

Kiku: The Art of the Japanese Garden presents chrysanthemums in homage to hanami, the traditional custom of enjoying the ephemeral beauty of flowers. Hundreds of meticulously trained kiku will be on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the New York Botanical Garden. Complement your visit with a special taste of Japan in Stephen STARR Event’s limited-run Japanese Pop-Up Restaurant. Show runs through October 27, open on Sundays.

All-Garden pass tickets start at $20 for adults; $8 for kids 2-12.

Kid Friendly: Disney Sponsors Family Day at Lincoln Center

Celebrate Family Day with Lincoln Center Out of Doors and Disney on Saturday, July 27. Enjoy and dance to various musical performances, which include the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Face the Music’s Pannonia Quartet. Also, watch mandolinist, violinist, and ace trumpeter Elena Moon Park as she mixes Asian languages with English in Japanese sea shanties, Tibetan jump-rope rhymes, Korean harvest sing-alongs, and Taiwanese train songs. Performances begin at 12pm at Hearst Plaza, 65th Street and Broadway. Free.

The New Museum of Contemporary Art will be hosting their annual Block Party on Saturday, July 20, 2013, 12pm – 5pm. The kid friendly event will take place inside of Sara D. Roosevelt Park, located on Chrystie Street between Delancey and Broome Street. The day will consist of workshops, interactive art and an art exhibition. Free.

Kid Friendly: Ballroom Dance for Kids at Damrosch Park (Free)

Midsummer Night Swing gives kids (ages 6 – 10) the opportunity to learn ballroom dance, merengue, tango and salsa. Dance instructor, Rodney Lopez, from Mad Hot Ballroom, teaches kids the basics for an hour and a half. Lessons are free and will be taking place at Damrosch Park (Amsterdam Ave. West 62nd Street) on Saturday, July 13, 3pm.
