Sport & Wellness: Summer Streets 2013 (Free)

Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August (3rd, 10th, 17th), nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets are opened for people to walk, run, bike, and play. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

Open to pedestrians for the first time in history, the Park Avenue Tunnel, which runs from 33rd Street to 40th Street, will be open to pedestrians at the 33rd Street entrance between the hours of 7 am and 1 pm. The Tunnel will host Voice Tunnel, an interactive light and sound installation by Mexican-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

Wellness: Walk Run or Bike the Williamsburg Bridge

One of the coolest wellness activities in the city is to walk, run or bike the Williamsburg bridge. Depending on which way you’re commuting — from BK to Manhattan or Manhattan to BK — you can visit either the LES art galleries or enjoy the Williamsburg street art. Don’t forget to make friends with the hundreds of daily commuters while crossing.
