Ink Art at the MET: Past as Present in Contemporary China

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is exhibiting contemporary Chinese art presenting works by 35 artists born in China. Featuring 70 works in various media—paintings, calligraphy, photographs, woodblock prints, video, and sculpture—that were created during the past three decades. Show runs through April 6. Chinese New Year 2014

The Chinese New Year — The Lunar Year — starts tomorrow, Friday, January 31. 500,000 firecrackers will be lit in the Lower East Side’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park on January 31, 11pm. If you can’t make the firework show, there’s always the Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade Festival on Sunday, February 2, 1pm.
