Leila Heller is pleased to announce Calligraffiti 1984 – 2013, on view from September 5 – October 5. Originally curated in 1984 by Jeffrey Deitch (Director, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles) at Leila Heller’s former uptown gallery, Calligraffiti explored a myriad of possible connections shared between the seemingly disparate styles of select mid-century abstract, U.S. graffiti, and calligraphic artists from the Middle East and its diaspora. The show includes a diverse palette of artists such as: Franz Kline, Jean Dubuffet, Cy Twombly, LA2, Keith Haring, Jean-Michell Basquiat, Leila Pazooki, El Seed, Shirin Neshat, Retna and many others. Movie: Hudson Riverflicks Presents Argo at Pier 63 in Chelsea (Free)

On Wednesday, July 24, Hudson RiverFlicks for Grownups presents 2012’s blockbuster hit and winner of 3 Academy Awards: Argo. The movie was directed, co-produced by, and stars Ben Affleck. It’s based on CIA operative Tony Mendez’s book The Master of Disguise. Mendez is known for leading the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Tehran, Iran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. The movie will show at Pier 63 in Chelsea and starts promptly at 8:30pm. Bring blankets and snacks. Free.

Art: Street Artists Pose + Revok in Chelsea (Free)

The Jonathan LeVine Gallery, 529 W. 20th Street, 9th Floor, is currently exhibiting street artists Pose and Revok. The exhibition — Uphill Both Ways — is a two-person show curated by Roger Gatsman. June 29 – July 27.
