Ink Art at the MET: Past as Present in Contemporary China

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is exhibiting contemporary Chinese art presenting works by 35 artists born in China. Featuring 70 works in various media—paintings, calligraphy, photographs, woodblock prints, video, and sculpture—that were created during the past three decades. Show runs through April 6. Museum of the City of New York Exhibits Martin Wong’s Extensive Street Art Collection

The Museum of the City of New York is exhibiting Martin Wong’s extensive Street Art Collection, February 4 – August 24. Martin Wong, an East Village artist and collector of graffiti art, amassed a treasure trove of hundreds of works, consisting of artists such as Keith Haring, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, and Futura 2000. The Martin Wong Collection includes over 150 works on canvas and other media, along with photographs of graffiti writing long erased from subways and buildings.

Chinese New Year 2014

The Chinese New Year — The Lunar Year — starts tomorrow, Friday, January 31. 500,000 firecrackers will be lit in the Lower East Side’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park on January 31, 11pm. If you can’t make the firework show, there’s always the Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade Festival on Sunday, February 2, 1pm.

Super Bowl Boulevard in Times Square

On February 2, 2014, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host Super Bowl XLVIII. To celebrate, New York City, the Super Bowl Host Committee assembled “Super Bowl Boulevard,” a series of football-themed experiences that will take over Times Square. Stop by a live concert, snap a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy or race down a specially made toboggan. Admission is free and open to the public. January 29 – February 1. 34th Street to 47th Street – Broadway.

Artist Talk with M. Tony Peralta at Renaissance Fine Art
