Super Bowl Boulevard in Times Square

On February 2, 2014, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host Super Bowl XLVIII. To celebrate, New York City, the Super Bowl Host Committee assembled “Super Bowl Boulevard,” a series of football-themed experiences that will take over Times Square. Stop by a live concert, snap a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy or race down a specially made toboggan. Admission is free and open to the public. January 29 – February 1. 34th Street to 47th Street – Broadway.

New York City Ballet Art Series 2014

New York City Ballet Art Series 2014 presents JR, creator of the Inside Out street art series and recipient of the TED prize. NYCB will be exhibiting JR’s work during performances on January 23, February 7 and February 13. Tickets: $29.

Artist Talk with M. Tony Peralta at Renaissance Fine Art

M. Tony Peralta, recently featured in the New York Times, is currently exhibiting at Renaissance Fine Art, and will be hosting an artist talk on Saturday, January 11.  His solo exhibition, titled Reconnected, identifies with his experiences while visiting the Dominican Republic.  Talk starts at 4pm.

Art Exhibit: Beyond Literacy at Galerie Protégé

The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic at the Park Avenue Armory

 

The Life and Death of Marina Ambramovic, starring Marina Ambramovic, is currently showing at the Park Avenue Armory. At the intersection of theater, opera and visual art, director Robert Wilson’s reimagining of performance artist Marina Abramovic’s extraordinary life and work begins with her difficult childhood in former Yugoslavia, and chronicles her journey to the present day. The show runs through Saturday, December 21st.

Cubano Bowl and Talib Kweli at Brooklyn Bowl

Unsilent Night 2013: The NYC Holiday Tradition Continues

Each December for the past two decades, composer Phil Kline has led a march of merrymakers from the West Village to the East, in what has become one of NYC’s favorite holiday traditions – Unsilent Night. Now in its 22nd year, Unsilent Night returns in all of its family-friendly musical magic this Saturday, December 14, starting at 6:45 p.m. in Washington Square Park.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Today

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is a world-wide symbol of the holidays in New York City. This year, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 7pm – 9pm. The Tree will remain lit and can be viewed until 11pm on January 7th, 2014.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

 

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater family returns to New York City. Performances will take place at The Joan Weill Center, located at 405 West 55th Street (9th Avenue). December 4 – January 5. Tickets start at $25.

The American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance changed forever the perception of American dance.
