The Life and Death of Marina Ambramovic, starring Marina Ambramovic, is currently showing at the Park Avenue Armory. At the intersection of theater, opera and visual art, director Robert Wilson’s reimagining of performance artist Marina Abramovic’s extraordinary life and work begins with her difficult childhood in former Yugoslavia, and chronicles her journey to the present day. The show runs through SaturdayDecember 21st.

Unsilent Night 2013: The NYC Holiday Tradition Continues

Each December for the past two decades, composer Phil Kline has led a march of merrymakers from the West Village to the East, in what has become one of NYC’s favorite holiday traditions – Unsilent Night. Now in its 22nd year, Unsilent Night returns in all of its family-friendly musical magic this Saturday, December 14, starting at 6:45 p.m. in Washington Square Park.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater family returns to New York City. Performances will take place at The Joan Weill Center, located at 405 West 55th Street (9th Avenue). December 4 – January 5. Tickets start at $25.

The American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance changed forever the perception of American dance.

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca at The Joyce Theater

Soledad Barrio’s “intensity is striking,” proclaims The New York Times. After playing to sold out Joyce houses for the last two years, the Bessie Award-winning dancer and her astounding company, Noche Flamenca, perform another searing show that combines live music with song and dance to captivate audiences once more with the essence of flamenco revealed in its most authentic and glorious form. The Joyce Theater is located on 175 W. 8th Avenue. December 3 – 15.

Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room at the David Zwirner Gallery

Japanese writer and artist, Yayoi Kusama, is currently exhibiting at the David Zwirner Gallery in Chelsea: I Who Arrived In Heaven. Spanning the gallery’s three consecutive locations on 19th Street in Chelsea (519, 525 and 533 West 19th Street), this exhibition by Yayoi Kusama features twenty-seven new large-scale paintings. Other highlights include the presentation of a new mirrored infinity room made especially for this exhibition and the United States debut of another infinity room, which was recently on view in Tokyo at the Mori Art Museum. Show is in display through December 21. Arrive early to avoid long lines.

Throughout her career, Kusama has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, collage, sculpture, performance art and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colors, repetition and pattern. A precursor of the pop art minimalist and feminist art movements, Kusama influenced contemporaries such as Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.

Pop icon, Lady Gaga, is bringing her ARTPOP tour to NYC. Gaga is scheduled to perform seven nights at the Roseland Ballroom, located at 239 W. 52nd Street. Tickets go on sale Monday, December 2, 10am.

The King of Latin Pop, Enrique Iglesias, will be performing at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, February 15, 8pm. Tickets for the Lovers’ Concert are on sale now and are expected to sell out.

Enrique Iglesias is a Spanish-American singer, songwriter, actor and record producer. Iglesias started his career in the mid-1990s and soon became one of the biggest stars in Latin America and the Hispanic Market. Iglesias has sold over 100 million units worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time.

The 8th Annual Latin American Cultural Week will take place November 14 – 25, 2013. Latin American Culture Week facilitates performances by many institutions and artists throughout New York City. Presentations consist of music, dance, film, theater, literature, visual and performing arts influenced by the diverse cultures of Latin America.
