The Armory Show, a leading international contemporary and modern art fair and one of the most important annual art events in New York, takes place every March on Piers 92 & 94 in central Manhattan. The Armory Show is devoted to showcasing the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. March 6 – March 9.

VOLTA NY is an invitational show of emerging solo artists’ projects and the American incarnation of the successful young fair founded in Basel in 2005. VOLTA NY was conceived in 2008 by Artistic Director Amanda Coulson as a tightly-focused, boutique event that is a place for discovery, a showcase for relevant art contemporary positions regardless of the artist’s or gallery’s age. SCOPE Art Show returns to landmark venue, Skylight at Moynihan Station, for its 14th New York edition. Located within the iconic New York City Post Office, SCOPE moves to the main hall, transforming the Postal Dock with its 30-foot vaulted glass ceiling into a dynamic exhibition of 60 international galleries alongside 20 Breeder Program galleries. Hailing from 22 countries, SCOPE exhibitors represent the best and brightest contemporary work from emerging and mid-career artists. March 6 – March 9.

French Cinema at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)

Rendez-Vous with French Cinema is a co-presentation of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and uniFrance Films in association with BAMcinématek and IFC Center. The 19th annual edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema celebrates the best in contemporary French filmmaking, including special appearances by Catherine Deneuve, Michel Gondry, Jacques Doillon, François Ozon, and more.  March 7 – March 10.

Beyond Bollywood at the National Museum of Natural History

Beyond Bollywood is a groundbreaking exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History from February 27, 2014 – August 15, 2015. Comedy: Chris D’Elia at Carolines

Chris D’Elia is quickly becoming one of the most sought after young comedians and actors in the comedy world, with Variety naming him one of their “Top 10 Comics to Watch.” D’Elia previously starred opposite Whitney Cummings on NBC’s multi-camera comedy Whitney. Ink Art at the MET: Past as Present in Contemporary China

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is exhibiting contemporary Chinese art presenting works by 35 artists born in China. Featuring 70 works in various media—paintings, calligraphy, photographs, woodblock prints, video, and sculpture—that were created during the past three decades. Show runs through April 6. Museum of the City of New York Exhibits Martin Wong’s Extensive Street Art Collection

The Museum of the City of New York is exhibiting Martin Wong’s extensive Street Art Collection, February 4 – August 24. Martin Wong, an East Village artist and collector of graffiti art, amassed a treasure trove of hundreds of works, consisting of artists such as Keith Haring, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, and Futura 2000. The Martin Wong Collection includes over 150 works on canvas and other media, along with photographs of graffiti writing long erased from subways and buildings.

Chinese New Year 2014

The Chinese New Year — The Lunar Year — starts tomorrow, Friday, January 31. 500,000 firecrackers will be lit in the Lower East Side’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park on January 31, 11pm. If you can’t make the firework show, there’s always the Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade Festival on Sunday, February 2, 1pm.

Super Bowl Boulevard in Times Square

On February 2, 2014, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host Super Bowl XLVIII. To celebrate, New York City, the Super Bowl Host Committee assembled “Super Bowl Boulevard,” a series of football-themed experiences that will take over Times Square. Stop by a live concert, snap a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy or race down a specially made toboggan. Admission is free and open to the public. Art Exhibit: Beyond Literacy at Galerie Protégé
